
Chavez
was enrolled from 1970-71 in
UCLA’s English doctorate program, and also taught, beginning in 1970,
UCLA’s
first Chicano literature class.
Following
a long and distinguished career in
public service, she now serves as President of the Center for Equal
Opportunity.
As President Bush’s one-time
nominee for
Labor Secretary, Chavez has written about that experience and others in
“
An Unlikely Conservative: The Transformation
of an Ex-Liberal.”
Chavez writes a
newspaper column, hosts her own radio show, and appears as an analyst
on the
Fox News Channel.
